The Koe Koe no Mi is a Paramecia Devil Fruit that allows the user to phase through solid matter. It was eaten by Sonata Rhapsody, the Doctor of the Outlaw Pirates.
Appearance
The fruit looks like a blue honeydew melon with swirls on it.
Strengths
The major, and most obvious strength of the fruit is that the user can turn intangible to avoid attacks, letting the attacks simply pass right through them. They can also turn intangible to quickly get to the back of the enemy by going through them.
One not immediately known is that the user can turn only parts of their body intangible, allowing them to reach inside an enemy and mess around with their insides.
The user can also turn anything they touch intangible as well. However, this require concentration.
Weaknesses
The major weakness of the fruit is that the user cannot phase through anything not solid, such as liquid water or poisonous gas. Even if they go intangible, they can still get blown away by a torrent of water, or fall prey to toxic gasses.
A lesser weakness is that while the user can turn things they touch intangible, they can only do so if they concentrate. This means that if the user reflexively turns intangible without preparation, they may forget to turn their clothes intangible with them, effectively phasing out of their clothes. Aside from that, the user is still susceptible to standard Devil Fruit weaknesses.
Oddly, no matter how many times Rhapsody phases out of her clothes, her mask remains on her face.
Usage
In the case of Rhapsody, a doctor, she often uses her power to phase through her patients' skin and perform check ups or surgery to their insides. Her expert knowledge of the body means she can easily do so without needing to see what is inside. As a member of the Longarm Tribe race, her arms have extra reach so that she can acquire tools from around the room, and her fingers and hands have just the right shape, reach, and joint position to lead one to assume she was born to be a doctor.
Rhapsody also uses her Devil Fruit power for combat, though prefers to treat the wounded. She will often phase through an enemy's chest and squeeze their heart in just the right way to kill them. Despite being a doctor, she has no problem with killing people.
Trivia
- "Koe" is the root of "koeru", which means "to pass through".
